The Iberia was rammed and sunk in 1888, carrying 28,000 crates of dates. It sits in 60 feet of water, 3 miles off of Long Island NY. The above pens were made from one of the crates recovered from the wreck. The variations of color in the wood was caused by all the minerals and other things in seawater that soaked into the wood during the over 100 years it sat on the seabed.
This is one of a set of darts made for the diver who recovered the wood. The Oregon sank in March of 1886, Today, the Oregon lies in 125 to 130 feet of water 21 miles South East of Fire Island Inlet
